Once finishing my training at Otago medical school I went on to do general practice training in Southland. This included training in rural GP service which is an interest of mine. I then practiced for several years in Lumsden and Queenstown before moving with my family to the Nelson region. I enjoy the wide variety of experiences that General Practice provides.

FRNZCGP, MBChB (Otago), Dip Obst (Auckland)

I am an Otago graduate and moved to Nelson in 1980 to complete my house surgeon years and Diploma in Obstetrics. After traveling overseas I entered the GP training programme in Nelson and have remained in general practice in the Nelson region since 1984.

A passion for people is what fuels my enjoyment of general practice; I also like the variety of work and being able to offer continuity of care as part of a team. My particular interests are "whole person health" and preventative health.

Outside of medicine my interests include walking , gardening, art and photography and singing in a community choir. I am married with two daughters.

I grew up in Christchurch, where I finished my Otago training and this is also where I met my husband-to-be, Tim. Patches of work in Britain funded our big OE, and after we returned we settled in Lyttelton.  After a spell of hospital medicine we then bought a Practice in Motueka and enjoyed 12 years there. I have worked in Richmond for 10 years now, and have valued the relationships I have established here, as well as the ever-changing nature of General Practice. I have also taught General Practice at all levels, and have kept up my thirst for knowledge by a studying a variety of things from Acupuncture, to Neurolinguistics, Masters level papers at Otago including Cardiology, Ethics, and advanced teaching and learning techniques, and more recently Bio and Neurofeedback. I have a keen interest in mind body medicine and look forward to getting back into potentially incorporating aspects of these other skills into my practice if patients so desired.
