Dr Richard Martin
FRNZCGP, MBChB, Dip Paeds
Medically trained in Auckland I moved to Nelson in 1997 to work at Nelson Hospital. Gaining a Diploma in Paediatrics I went on to gain further experience as a Paediatric Registrar and Emergency Department doctor at Christchurch Hospital, before returning to Nelson. Completing my training in General Practice led to Fellowship of the College of GPs. I have now been at Richmond Health since 2004 and thoroughly enjoy the wide range of challenges and experiences it provides.
Dr Antonia Mead
MRNZCGP, MBChB, BSc
Originally from nearby Golden Bay, I spent time overseas before starting my tertiary studies. I completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in psychology at Victoria University, Wellington, and went on to study Medicine at the University of Otago. I spent my first clinical years at Christchurch Hospital and moved back to Nelson in 2012 to take up a position at Nelson Hospital. Thoroughly enjoying being back home in the Nelson region, I decided to stay and complete my general practice training here. I have a special interest in women's health and have recently completed postgraduate training via University of Otago. In my spare time I like to get outdoors as much as possible and spend most of my free time mountain biking, hiking, or in the garden.

Dr Geoff McAlpine
FRNZCGP, MBChB
I came to medicine late in life (30) having previously worked in many fields including building, marine conservation, deep sea fisheries, forestry. I completed my training in 1999 and worked for 5 years in hospital medicine (emergency and psychiatry). I completed my Fellowship in General Practice in 2010 and have been permanently at Richmond Health since 2009. I love all aspects of general practice but have special interests in minor surgery, menâs health and mental health. Iâm married with two children and enjoy several outdoor activities (kitesurfing, mountain biking, fishing, hunting).
Dr Lucia Mitchell
FRNZCGP, MBChB
I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1981, and emigrated to New Zealand with my husband in 1983. I completed general practice training in Greymouth, gaining Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1998. We moved to Nelson in 1999.
I believe that my work as a general practitioner grants me the privilege of sharing in otherâs  lives, and I immensely enjoy the wide variety of general practice. Geriatrics, dementia care and palliative care have become areas of particular professional interest to me. Pastimes outside of medicine include reading, music and walking. I also love the natural beauty and diverse activities of the beautiful Nelson region. Our five daughters and their families are a constant delight to myself and my husband.
